A new program in the Bend area called Clean Energy Service Corps is beginning to accept applications from young adults between the ages of 18 and 24.

Funded through AmeriCorps and run through the Bend Area Habitat for Humanity and Heart of Oregon Corps, the program will provide training in clean energy practices, with the goal of preparing participants for careers in Oregon’s growing clean energy industry.

Applications for the program’s first eight positions will be accepted through March 15. The young adults accepted will receive six months of training that will include hands-on experience with new home construction as well as deconstruction and renovation projects.

Participants will receive a stipend while in the program and will have the opportunity to attend community college classes or work toward a GED degree. Those who complete all of the training will each receive a $2,675 award toward a college degree.
