Need a place to charge your electric car? Use that guy’s house!

This seems like a cool new service for folks that are considering electric cars. A California company, Xatori, Inc., just launched an iPhone app called .

The service – available nationally – lets households friendly to electric cars sign up as sort of private mini-charging stations for drivers who aren’t near a public station. It displays both private and public stations on a Google map of your area.

It’s an interesting way to tackle the charging infrastructure problem as we wait for a network of public stations to grow.

Of course, I imagine there are some privacy concerns about putting your address out there for everybody to see. But that said, the free application still seems like a pretty innovative idea.

The service also just launched today, so I imagine there aren’t many Oregon sites up there yet. But since it’s free, maybe we’ll see the network expand relatively quickly.

Cheers!
