Gerding Edlen Development has acquired a property near Seattle University where it will build a mixed-use development, the company announced Wednesday.
鈥淲e have been very actively looking for good mixed-use development opportunities that are multifamily based, in good locations in major urban centers,鈥 said Kelly Saito, president of Gerding Edlen.
The development company recently kicked off mixed-use projects in San Francisco and Venice Beach, Calif.
The Seattle building will include approximately 118 residential units, including 20 percent affordable housing units, and 6,500 square feet of retail space on top of two floors of underground parking, Saito said. The project is located near three major health care institutions: Swedish Medical Center, Harborview Medical Center and Virginia Mason Medical Center, at 412 Broadway. A streetcar line is planned to pass right in front of the building. Construction is expected to begin on the project in August of this year.
