A new mixed-use apartment building being proposed at the corner of Northwest 12^th Avenue and Everett Street is making its way through approvals.

The West Bearing Housing project, which consists of 50 apartment units over 2,600 square feet of ground floor retail space, received a recommendation for design review approval by city of Portland Bureau of Development Services staff earlier this week. The plans for the project will now go in front of the design commission during its May 19 meeting for final design approval.

The project is being pitched by Peter Stott, president of the Portland-based Columbia Investments Ltd., and is being designed by GBD Architects. The building will consist of six floors with six one-bedroom apartments and four studios on floors two through six. Stott is tracking gold certification through the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program.

In addition to the apartments and retail space, the building will have 32 parking stalls.

Besides BDS staff, the project team has also presented design ideas to the Pearl District Neighborhood Association, which according to approved minutes from its March 22 meeting were received positively by neighbors.

During the May 19 meeting, the design commission will also discuss the design approval of a new four-story, two-building, mixed-use project at the corner of Northwest 23^rd Avenue and Savier Street. The project will consist of 179 apartment units over ground floor retail. The project team includes Mill Creek Residential Trust, the freight company Con-Way and SERA Architects.
