It’s a good time for electrical contractors to look into renewable energy.
SolarWorld recently sold its largest residential solar-electric system to homeowners in Southern California. The 150-kilowatt Sunkit system, perched on a rocky slope on the hilltop estate, is far bigger than the average 5-kilowatt installation, but unit sales are projected to increase 50 percent to end 2011 at about $1.5 million.
The turn-key Sunkit systems are custom designed and manufactured by SolarWorld in Hillsboro, enabling electrical contractors to break into renewable energy installation without learning entirely new systems and procedures.
Instead, contractors report site specific details and SolarWorld designs the system, custom manufactures it and ships it to the installation site.
鈥淚f you’re an electrical contractor and have been doing residential installations the whole time you’ve been in business, but now you want to get into renewable energy, this system keeps you doing what you do best 鈥 installation 鈥 and keeps our manufacturers doing what they know best, which is solar,鈥 said Ben Santarris, SolarWorld’s head of corporate communications and sustainability for the Americas.
