The Ira F. Powers Warehouse and Factory has been . The inner eastside warehouse, which is also known as Convention Center Plaza, was completed in 1925. The building is in the process of being developed into loft space by and the Portland Development Commission.

鈥淚t’s one of the few remaining buildings from when Portland was one of the furniture-making centers of the country,鈥 said Robert Mawson, vice president of Heritage Consulting Group, which prepared the building’s nomination.

Mawson said the building also served as a dormitory for ship builders during World War II.

The building is owned by the city of Portland and is one of the properties involved in PDC’s project. The listing on the National Historic Register, which became official at the end of last month, will allow Beam Development to get Federal Historic Preservation tax credits. The federal incentive program provides credits for up to 20 percent of the project cost for eligible renovations of .
