The Oregon Department of Motor Vehicles is looking for commercial property owners in Bend who have space available to house the Bend DMV and its employees.

DMV officials announced this morning that remaining in its current digs at the ODOT headquarters complex on U.S. Route 97 would cost the DMV about $1.5 million. The DMV is now seeking potential spaces within Bend city limits that could house a DMV operation.

鈥淭o make sure it’s worth spending that much money, we’re seeking information from commercial property owners for possible leasable buildings within properly zoned areas of Bend,鈥� said Tom McClellan, a DMV administrator.

The state Department of Administrative Services issued a public notice requesting information on leasable office facilities in retail- or commercial-zoned properties within Bend. Residential areas are not being considered.

According to the requirements sheet, the space would need to contain approximately 5,000 t0 6,000 square feet of rentable space with a minimum of 60 to 65 parking spaces and room for three semi-trucks with trailers or large buses. The department is looking for a 10-year lease with two five-year options to extend.

DMV officials expect to determine within eight weeks if they plan to move to a new space or retrofit the existing one.
