A building is being planned to replace in Northeast Portland.

The 140,000-square-foot structure, to be designed by (DOWA), would cost $32 million to construct and would be located on the same property as the current school, which is more than 50 years old and in major disrepair.

Dan Hess, associate principal at DOWA, said the project is expected to be done by fall 2013, pending approval by the city. Funding for the project will come from a Parkrose School District bond that passed by only six votes last summer.

Hess said the new school鈥檚 design will be 鈥渕ore open and filled with light鈥� and will tie into Parkrose High School鈥檚 campus across the street.
