The $6.3 million project, designed by , will be an expansion of the FHDC’s 90-unit Nuevo Amanecer housing complex, which was built in 1992. Currently, 300 families are on a waiting list for the complex, according to Karen Stegemiller, project manager for Carleton Hart.

Nine buildings will be built as part of the expansion, including a community building with gathering areas and a laundry room. The units will be built without carpets to avoid the spreading of pesticides the workers may face on the job, Stegemiller said.

Construction is expected to begin at the end of this month and to finish by early 2013.
