Oregon Fish and Wildlife officials are going to add 28,000 square feet – including 8,000 square feet of storage space – by moving their Salem headquarters to an industrial park and spending approximately $8.5 million on a renovation project.

The department will occupy the building at the Fairview Industrial Park once used by Western Tool Supply. Project architect Richard Rothweiler of said bids on the project were received last week. The project was originally budgeted for $8.5 million, he said.

Construction can begin as soon as the bids are processed and the necessary permits are obtained, Rothweiler said. That could be as early as next week, he added.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is located on Cherry Lane in Salem. By moving to the 100,000-sqaure-foot industrial park, Fish and Wildlife spokesman Richard Parker said department officials will obtain much-needed elbow room.

“There’s a considerable amount of warehouse space because we have a great deal of storage needs,” Parker said.

The project should be completed in June 2012, when Fish and Wildlife employees should be ready to move in, he said.
