The first of many proposed developments to expand Portland State University’s campus is complete.

The University Point at College Station, a 16-story dormitory, will open next week.

The building, designed by and built by , will hold 1,000 beds, two levels of classrooms and ground-floor retail. It will also include a fitness center, a computer lab and multiple study and social lounges with video game counsels and Wi-Fi access.

A number of sustainable features were put into the building’s design, including low-flow plumbing fixtures, an energy efficient heating and cooling system and an ecoroof.

School officials hope the building will help transform PSU‘s campus into a more traditional university campus. In the past, the university has been known as a commuter school.

Units will be priced between $500 and $1,200 per person and will range from studio spaces to four-bedroom apartments.
