The Gresham fire department is planning to build a new fire station in unincorporated Multnomah County and is looking for architects to help design it.

Multnomah County Rural Fire Protection District 10 is seeking a 10,000- to 14,000-square-foot building on a vacant, five-acre property at the corner of Southeast 302nd Avenue and Dodge Park Boulevard. Scott Lewis, fire chief for Gresham Fire & Emergency Services, said the new facility will replace an existing one across the street that has space constraints.

鈥淭he existing building, which is on the opposite corner, was built in 1961 as a two-bay, concrete block building, and it鈥檚 been added onto a couple of times,鈥� he said. 鈥淏ut the property size doesn鈥檛 allow for additions or increases in the amount of plumbing fixtures, so it鈥檚 locked into a single restroom facility. The property size also isn鈥檛 adequate enough to expand the building or replace it on the current site.鈥�

Lewis said the new facility will include two to three drive-through bays, living quarters, meeting facilities and office space for the fire district. It will be built outside of the urban growth boundary; the property is supposed to remain outside of the UGB for the next 40 to 50 years.

District 10 serves unincorporated Multnomah County residents who live between Gresham city limits and the Sandy River 鈥� a significantly rural population, Lewis said.
