Senate Business and Transportation Committee members on Monday voted to require that construction workers be paid prevailing wage on public projects on Oregon college and university campuses.

Committee Chairman Lee Beyer, D-Springfield, was excused; otherwise, the vote was unanimous.

House Bill 2646 now is headed to the Senate floor with a do-pass recommendation.

The bill passed out of the House Business and Labor Committee on March 19 and was approved by the full House on March 21 by a vote of 47-10. All 10 of the nay votes came from Republicans.

In other legislative action on Monday, Business and Labor Committee members unanimously passed Senate Bill 205 to the House floor with a do-pass recommendation. The bill would eliminate the requirement that the Construction Contractors Board’s rules require certain mandatory contract terms.

The Business and Transportation Committee passed the bill on Feb. 5, and the full Senate followed suit on Feb. 7. There were no nay votes.

Business and Labor Committee members on Monday also held a public hearing on Senate Bill 207, which would require that applications for construction contractor licenses include the names and addresses of people involved in limited partnerships. No vote was taken.

The bill passed out of the Business and Transportation Committee on March 18 and was approved on the full Senate on March 21 with no nay votes.
