Three Portland architecture firms received design excellence awards from the American Institute of Architects Northwest and Pacific Region

Projects designed by Allied Works Architecture, THA Architecture and ZGF Architects were among 13 honored last month during the AIA Northwest regional conference in Vancouver, Canada.

A four-person jury recognized Allied Works, which has offices in Portland and New York, for two projects. The firm received an honor award, the highest recognition, for the Clyfford Still Museum in Denver and a merit award for the Sokol Blosser
winery tasting room in Dayton.

THA Architecture received a merit award for the Bayview Library in San Francisco and a citation award for the Colonel Nesmith Readiness Center in Dallas, Ore.

The jury gave special recognition to ZGF Architects for a project to restore and renovate King Street Station in Seattle.

The Allied Works, THA and ZGF projects were among 123 submissions the AIA jury reviewed.

Brad Cloepfil, the founding principal of Allied Works, said the Clyfford Still Museum and Sokol Blosser tasting room stood out because of their approach.

“I think there is a ubiquitous style to contemporary architecture which neither of those projects subscribe to,” he said. “That kind of differentiation people recognize.”
