Winkler Development Corp. is flirting with the idea of starting a multifamily project on North Mississippi Avenue, between Fremont and Cook streets.
The Portland-based company has filed for early assistance from the Bureau of Development Services concerning preliminary plans for the project, which is pegged for an approximately 50,000-square-foot vacant parcel at 3403 N. Mississippi Ave. Jim Winkler, the company’s president, said plans are still conceptual, but number of units will likely be approximately 150.
“We have some ideas that are untried, so to speak, so we wanted to get (the city’s) temperature taken first,” he said.
Following his meeting with the city, Winkler said he will reach out to neighbors to get their thoughts on the development plan.
Winkler said he purchased the lot about 10 years ago. The purchase price was $300,000, according to public records. The company has since waited for the right time, as well as a break between other projects, to start the new development. This year, Winkler Development has tackled several affordable housing renovations in downtown Portland, including the Park Tower Apartments at 731 S.W. Salmon St., the 1200 Building at 1220 S.W. 12th Ave., and the Lexington Apartments at 1125 S.W. 12th Ave.
