Construction of the $15 million second phase of the Glisan Commons affordable housing project is scheduled to start this week in Portland’s Gateway neighborhood.

The three nonprofit project partners – Human Solutions, REACH Community Development and Ride Connection – on Thursday will host a ground-breaking ceremony for the 60-unit second phase as well as a grand opening for the finished 67-unit first phase. The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to noon at 555 N.E. 100th Ave. in Portland.

Portland-based R&H Colas Construction recently wrapped up work on the $13 million first phase and is scheduled to complete the second phase in March or April 2015, said Laura Recko, a spokeswoman for REACH Community Development. Half of the first building’s residents will move in by Thursday, she said.

Portland’s Holst Architecture designed the first phase, and Portland’s Carleton Hart Architecture designed the second.
