Kristen Stallman, an Oregon Department of Transportation project manager, next week will be feted as “Woman of the Year” by the Portland chapter of WTS, an international organization dedicated to building transportation improvements through the advancement of women.

Stallman, project manager for the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area project, is being recognized for successful mentorship and motivation of women during the $45 million project, said Ted Stonecliffe, awards and recognition chairman for WTS-Portland.

“It was amazing how many women they had working on the project,” he said. “This award was five years in the making.”

Stallman’s selection was made by a five-person selection committee, Stonecliffe said.

“It was a difficult pool of nominees to choose from,” he said. “But these were the cream of the crop.”

Stallman and four others will be honored by the Portland chapter at an event on June 3. Tegan Enloe, a transportation engineer at DKS Associates, was named Member of the Year for raising more than $125,000 in scholarship money by hosting the WTS international conference at the Hilton Hotel; Vanessa Vissar, a TriMet planner, received the New Voice award for providing substantial industry contributions within the first five years of her career; Parsons Brinckerhoff was honored as Employer of the Year for establishing internal policies supporting women in the workplace; and TriMet received the Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership award for being a national leader in implementation of Title 6 requirements of the Civil Rights Act.

The awards will be presented on Tuesday, from 6-8:30 p.m., at the BridgePort brewpub at 1313 N.W. Marshall St., in Portland.
