Downtown Eugene will soon have a newly renovated public center for architecture operated by the American Institute of Architects’ Southwestern Oregon chapter.
Tenant improvements are transforming an eight-sided glass structure dubbed “the Octagon” at 92 E. Broadway into the new AIA Southwestern Oregon headquarters, said Scott Clarke, the chapter’s board president.
The space will host design-related exhibits, lectures and events. Also, businesses and organizations will be able to rent the facility for conferences.
Workers at the Octagon are installing tile flooring, LED lighting and an audio visual system with video projector and screen. Various local contractors, building suppliers and other companies have donated services or materials for the project.
Clarke said he anticipates a soft opening for the architecture center in August and an official opening this fall.
