Two firms remain in the hunt to serve as construction manager-general contractor for the $35 million Beaverton public safety center project, which is subject to voters’ approval on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Lease Crutcher Lewis and Skanska USA Building are the finalists in the competitive bidding process, said Beaverton police Capt. Jim Monger, who is managing the project for the city.

Mackenzie is set to provide architectural services for the project, which would expand the 75,000-square-foot former City Hall on Southwest Griffith Drive by approximately 32,000 square feet, Monger said. The build-out would begin in spring 2015 and last 18 months, he said.

City agencies recently completed a two-week process to move into the Beaverton Building at The Round, a mixed-use development near the Beaverton Central MAX station off of Southwest Millikan Way. The city’s police department, municipal court services and emergency management services would be consolidated in the former City Hall, according to Monger; presently they occupy leased space off-site.

鈥淚t’s a matter of taking a building with an existing footprint to get additional square footage and constructing out toward the north end,鈥� he said.

Two finalists were named because Lewis Crutcher Lewis and Skanska scored virtually the same on the city’s scoring matrix, Monger said. The city’s selection committee will issue its final recommendation based on follow-up interviews with the two firms by Sept. 4, he said.

Beaverton City Council would then need to approve the selection committee’s recommendation, probably either Sept. 16 or Sept. 23.
