The Beaverton School District has hired firms to handle design and engineering for a $109 million project to construct a new high school.

Portland-based Boora Architects will design the approximately 320,000-square-foot school, said David Etchart, the district’s administrator for facilities development. The district has also hired structural engineer KPFF Consulting Engineers, mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer PAE and civil engineer Harper Houf Peterson Righellis, he said.

The new high school will be built near the intersection of Southwest 175thAvenue and Scholls Ferry Road. It will serve up to 2,200 students and help the district keep up with growing enrollment, Etchart said.

The project is being paid for with money from a $680 million capital improvement bond approved by voters in May.

District officials plan in about a month to issue a request for proposals from firms interested in serving as construction manager-general contractor, Etchart said. He anticipated the selection process to require about two or three weeks.

Construction of the new high school is expected to start in summer 2015 and wrap up in time for classes to start in September 2017.

District officials are close to selecting architecture and engineering firms for another bond-funded project – a new, $51.6 million middle school, Etchart said. A design team for the middle school project should be hired by mid-September, he said.
