A grand opening was held Thursday for Portland Police Bureau鈥檚 recently-completed $15 million training facility in Northeast Portland. The Bureau purchased the 61,320-square-foot warehouse building on Northeast Airport Way in 2012 for $6.4 million, and renovations began that December.

The complex features two firearms ranges, a scenario village for tactical training, outdoor vehicle operations training space, mat room for self-defense tactics training, multiple classrooms, and administrative offices. The project鈥檚 general contractor was 2KG Contractors, and Scott | Edwards Architecture designed the remodel.

A training area called Scenario Village is a mock streetscape with a single-family home, apartment complex, and two storefronts, giving the opportunity to train for multiple scenarios.

The facility features two 50-yard shooting ranges.

A large classroom that can be divided into two separate spaces also has the capability to join in a video feed with two other classrooms in the building, allowing for a large number of officers to be briefed during special situations. Located at the front of the facility, the classroom features ballistic coverings over the lower portion of the windows.
