When Angela Sheehan joined Glumac, she noticed there were very few women working for the firm. Those who did work there were mainly in administrative roles.

Sheehan set about to helping the firm to create a work environment that would not only attract women, but retain them. Today, Glumac boasts 100 women on its staff, representing about a third of the firm’s total workforce. Seventy of those women were hired under Sheehan’s leadership.

Glumac has flourished in other areas as well. With Sheehan’s guidance, the firm was able to grow during the recession. While other firms struggled just to survive, Glumac doubled its revenue, maintained year-after-year growth of 20 percent, and saw its share value nearly triple.

Sheehan also brought together under a single financial umbrella the firm’s nine offices, which had operated in environments marked by redundancy and cost overruns prior to her arrival at Glumac. Creating one cohesive financial organization helped the firm establish a platform for additional growth, including into international markets.

She also has encouraged the firm to become involved outside its walls. Glumac is involved in community and industry efforts and groups such as Rebuild Portland and the Portland Business Alliance. Staff members have participated in Canstruction and Habitat for Humanity efforts to build area homes. With an eye toward encouraging young women to consider careers in the building industry, Sheehan also has supported Glumac’s involvement in the ACE Mentor program.
