For Karen Natzel, the owner of K Communications, business growth and success are all about professionalism and communication. It’s a philosophy she has developed based on 18 years spent helping professionals excel in the construction industry. Early in her career, Natzel helped lead a strategic planning effort for the board of directors of the Oregon-Columbia chapter of the Association of General Contractors.聽 She was instrumental in launching what is now the chapter’s Construction Leadership Council, a group that attracts the next generation of AGC leaders, and played a role as an AGC representative in helping advance a mentor-prot茅g茅 program at the Port of Portland.
During employment with Emerick Construction, she mentored project managers on communication and relationship-building skills as the company’s marketing director.
She formed K Communications 10 years ago. An aggressive and innovative leader, she has built a solid reputation as a 鈥渂usiness therapist,鈥 a market niche she created. With a special talent for leadership development, Natzel is adept at handling a range of situations, including reorganizations resulting from staff reductions and presentations to help professionals polish their skills, according to her clients.
Natzel has earned widespread respect in the building industry for regularly making herself available to help young professionals shape their careers. She also served as a mentor for the first students at ACE Academy in Portland.
As a member of the Society for Marketing Professional Services, Natzel served as an ambassador to the Professional Services Council Board of Directors and worked with the Portland Development Commission.
