The Portland State University School of Architecture is preparing to kick off a lecture series that examines competition in architecture.

University officials have invited four internationally renowned experts in architecture and urban design to discuss their work and the idea of professional and creative competition during the . The lectures will take place on Thursday evenings at PSU in the Shattuck Hall Annex, near the intersection of Southwest Broadway and Hall Street, and are free and open to the public.

The first lecture, by architect Jenny Wu, will take place on Thursday at 7 p.m. Wu is a partner with Los Angeles-based architecture and design firm . The firm has won numerous design awards and is known for experimentation in design and fabrication. Recent projects include the Taipei Sales Center, a commercial and residential tower in Taipei, Taiwan; and reALIze, a that pays tribute to boxing legend Muhammad Ali.

Mexican architecture critic and designer Alejandro Hernandez Galvez will follow with a talk on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. He is the editorial director of , a Mexican architectural journal.

founding partner Adam Caruso will deliver a lecture on Jan. 22, 2015 at 6 p.m. The firm, which has offices in London and Zurich, designs projects that aim to resist the trend of increased size and specialization that dominates contemporary architecture.

Alison Hirsch, an assistant professor at the University of Southern California School of Architecture in Los Angeles, will conclude the lecture series. The landscape architect and urban historian with give a talk on Feb. 5, 2015 at 6 p.m.
