Portland Mayor announced last week that the City Council’s first reading of a proposal to amend six Portland areas won’t take place until Jan. 29, at 2 p.m., to allow time for public input.

The meeting was originally scheduled for Dec. 17.

鈥淭his additional time will allow city and (Portland Development Commission) staff to provide additional clarity around how we reach our affordable housing goals in the North Macadam renewal area,鈥 Hales said. 鈥淲e remain committed to reducing the impact of urban renewal on other taxing jurisdictions and solidifying public-private partnerships that will benefit our city.鈥

In May 2014, the , through Resolution No. 37072, directed the PDC and city staff to begin processing amendments to six URAs. If approved, the amendments would reduce the impact of urban renewal on taxing jurisdictions, provide resources to meet economic development, redevelopment, and affordable housing goals, and provide support to Portland State University.

The council is considering several amendments to six URAs, including reduction or elimination of the Airport Way, River District, Willamette Industrial and Education URAs, and extension or expansion of the and North Macadam URAs.
