Developers looking to build a 100-plus-unit apartment building slightly northwest of Portland State University have asked for design advice from the city.

Kurt Schultz of SERA Architects will meet with the Bureau of Development Services on Jan. 15 to discuss Type III design review for construction of a nine-story apartment building.

The apartments will be built at the intersection of Southwest 12th Avenue and Market Street. The 62-year-old building at that location formerly held the Market Street YMCA Child Development Center, which has since moved. It is not clear if the organization will return to the Market Street location when construction finishes. A phone call to Jennie Sowder, executive director at YMCA of Columbia-Willamette, was not returned by press time.

According to city data, the quarter-block property will include 102 market-rate apartments in an L-shaped building. The plans call for 鈥済round-floor amenities,鈥� a fitness center, bicycle parking, a commons room and a rooftop terrace.

Plans submitted to the city indicate that the apartments will be a mixture of studios, one-bedroom units, one-bedroom units with loft space and two-bedroom units.

A call to Schultz requesting information about the construction schedule was not returned by press time.
