Photos: Demolition of former post office begins

Demolition began this week on the former University Station post office building in downtown Portland. Crews with Konell Construction & Demolition Corp. are razing the 31,250-square-foot structure, which was built in 1949.
The property was purchased by St. Mary’s Academy in 2013 with plans to expand the all-female Catholic high school’s campus. GBD Architects and Shiels Obletz Johnsen have been hired to assess the school’s needs and identify development options on the site.
