Construction is scheduled to start this month on a $1.5 million remodel to Consolidated Community Credit Union鈥檚 Northeast Portland branch, at 2021 N.E. Sandy Blvd.

Crews from Portland-based general contractor Bremik Construction will start work later this month, and are scheduled to wrap up by June or July, the credit union鈥檚 CEO, Larry Ellifritz, said.

Portland-based Scott | Edwards Architecture designed a new interior and exterior for the 4,500-square-foot bank with new windows, roof, canopies, graphics and signage. The remodel for the 1960s-era building is intended to serve the bank鈥檚 expanding client base; it鈥檚 part of a rebranding effort to cater more to individuals rather than businesses, Ellifritz said. Much of the project will involve making the branch more inviting, he said.

鈥淚t鈥檚 a center where people can come hang out and have coffee and not feel like they have to make a deposit and get out,鈥 he said.

Other changes include increasing the size of the windows to extend from floor to ceiling, allowing passing motorists to see activity happening inside the bank. The interior will be cozier with more places to sit, Ellifritz said.

鈥淥ur hope is that kind of activates that space more so it feels more like a lounge or coffee shop,鈥 he said.
