A North Portland historic home in the Boise neighborhood will be razed in May if an alternative to demolition isn’t found.

The Portland Bureau of Development Services on Wednesday announced that the owner of a 114-year-old single-family home located at 4065 N. Michigan Ave. wants to demolish it.

Owner Eddie Miller in December applied to the city for permission to demolish the home, which is a contributing historic structure within in the Mississippi Conservation District, according to city information.

The city delayed demolition until May 15 to 鈥渁llow time for consideration of alternatives to demolition,鈥� according to city documents. Alternatives to demolition could include restoration, salvage or relocation. The owner or another interested party is responsible for finding demolition alternatives, according to section 33 of Portland Zoning Code.

Miller has not filed an application with the city for a permit to construct a new building on the site following demolition. According to code, if there are no plans to erect a new structure, the 120-day waiting period takes effect after the director of the Bureau of Development Services determines the demolition application is complete. A demolition permit may be issued by the bureau following the waiting period.

The home is 714 square feet with an unfinished basement and a detached 8-foot-by-12-foot garage in the back yard.
