A Woodburn mobile home manufacturer was fined $75,800 by the Oregon Occupational Safety & Health Division for six violations, according to a news release.

An investigation found that Fleetwood Homes managers were aware of employee exposures to falls and failed to provide protection, despite concerns raised by employees.

鈥淵ear after year, falls are one of the major sources of serious injury and death in Oregon,鈥� said Oregon OSHA Administrator Michael Wood. 鈥淭here is no good reason to disregard the need to protect workers from such risks. Yet, this employer consciously ignored fall protection rules that are designed to prevent injuries or deaths.鈥�

Fleetwood Homes employees work in environments where 13-foot falls are a threat. Roofers reported having to climb over scaffolding guardrails onto mobile home roofs with no tie-off points to connect a fall protection harness.

Company employees reported the safety violation to management three times in 2014 before complaining to OSHA.

The citation resulted from an Aug. 29, 2014 OSHA inspection at the Woodburn plant.

OSHA officials, during the inspection, found that the company also was allowing employees to stand on scaffolding guardrails, failing to provide an access ladder or other safe access to scaffolding, failing to provide necessary hard hats and failing to inspect fall protection equipment.

Fleetwood Homes has 30 days to appeal the decision.
