Tigard-based Northwest Demolition and Dismantling has been selected to serve as construction manager-general contractor for selective demolition and salvage of portions of Centennial Mills.
The Portland Development Commission in December determined that portions of the buildings and structures on the Centennial Mills site had degraded to a degree that they could potentially create a risk if they collapsed. The immediacy of the situation led the agency to declare an emergency, which allowed it to bypass a traditional low-bid approach in favor of a CM-GC option.
Northwest Demolition and Dismantling was one of six firms that submitted proposals for the demolition work, according to the PDC.
During the next three months, the company will come up with a guaranteed maximum price for the demolition and salvage, and submit a proposed timeline for the work. The PDC will then begin looking for a team to handle design and construction of possible public improvements on the site.
The agency is still negotiating with Harsch Investment Properties regarding future development of Centennial Mills.
