Ankrom Moisan Architects‘ Tom Moisan in July will step down as president and be replaced by the firm’s managing principal, Dave Heater.

Moisan, who co-founded the firm with Stewart Ankrom in 1983, said he is planning to retire in a couple of years, but in the meantime will remain the company’s board chairman. Ankrom retired three years ago and Moisan said he’d like to soon follow suit. He and his wife are planning to sail around the world in a catamaran.

Now Moisan is ready to pass on the torch to the firm’s next generation of leaders.

鈥淭his is just another part of our transition,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 think everybody is very optimistic about the future.鈥�

Heater, who started his career at Ankrom Moisan in 1990 as an intern, is aptly suited to assume the presidency and has already proven his abilities by successfully leading the launch of the firm’s Seattle office in 2006, Moisan said.

鈥淲e’ve always been an entrepreneurial firm,鈥� he said. 鈥淒ave is a perfect mix of collaborative attitude and entrepreneurial spirit.鈥�

Heater lives in Seattle and splits his time between Ankrom Moisan’s Portland and Seattle offices. He will continue to do so after he takes over as firm president this summer. He initially will oversee plans to open a third office in the San Francisco Bay Area and expand the firm’s work in California. Ankrom Moisan Architects has approximately 300 employees, and also is in the process of moving its Seattle and Portland offices to new locations.
