The Clackamas Community College Board of Education on Wednesday approved hiring Portland-based Hennebery Eddy Architects to design a new bond-funded building at the Harmony Community Campus in Milwaukie.

A 61-year-old campus building, at 7738 S.E. Harmony Road, will be replaced by a new, 43,000-square-foot facility that will house education and workforce development programs.

The $16 million project cost is being covered via a $90 million bond passed by voters in November 2014. That money will pay for construction of four new buildings, updates and expansions of classrooms and labs, and modernization of equipment to meet current industry standards. Also, a project to construct a new building on the Harmony campus received state funding through $8 million in matching grants awarded through the Oregon Legislature.

Hennebery Eddy has an extensive portfolio of higher education design, including work at Portland Community College, Willamette University, Lewis & Clark College and Montana State University.

The Clackamas Community College board last month also approved hiring Portland-based inici group to provide project management services for bond-related work. Firm staffers will guide college officials through design and construction as well as work to ensure that projects are completed on time and on budget
