Designs by Norwegian architecture firm Snohetta for the James Beard Public Market in Portland will be revealed at a public meeting on June 25.
The Historic Portland Public Market Foundation will host the open house to share architectural concepts a Snohetta team has developed since the firm was hired this past fall to design the project. The nonprofit foundation has long worked to develop a year-round public market on a Southwest Naito Parkway parking lot at the west end of the Morrison Bridge.
Snohetta designers will be on hand during the open house to discuss plans for the market and how the development will enhance downtown Portland and the southwest waterfront. It will be the first time the firm’s vision for the project will be shared publicly.
Early concepts for the project created by Portland-based SERA Architects called for an outdoor plaza between two indoor market halls totaling 93,000 square feet with more than 100 stalls for food, beverages and flowers, a teaching kitchen and an event venue. Snohetta staffers used input from community meetings to further refine those plans.
The open house will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry’s Theory Restaurant, but the free event has reached a maximum level of registrants. An online waiting list for the event is available at .
