Multnomah County transportation officials next week will host an open house while seeking community input on road improvements to Northeast Sandy Boulevard in the cities of Fairview and Wood Village.

The event will take place Tuesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Fairview Community Center at 300 Harrison St. in Fairview. The latest project designs will be on display with a chance for the public to comment and ask questions. A presentation by county staff will start at 6:30 p.m.

County officials have identified Sandy Boulevard as a substandard street with safety concerns for pedestrians and bicyclists. It’s also a heavily used commute route in the eastern part of the county. Officials are seeking input from anyone who uses the road – including neighbors, business owners and visitors – on the current plans for improvements.

As proposed, the street would be rebuilt between its intersections with Northeast 230th and 238th avenues. Work would include upgrades to sidewalks, bike lanes, traffic lanes and intersections.

Construction is scheduled to start in spring 2016.
