Portland-based interior design firm Osmose Design has been hired for a project to create a new public tasting room in Portland’s Central Eastside for House Spirits Distillery.

The firm, which has worked for clients such as Salt & Straw and Stumptown Coffee Roasters, is designing a 1,100-square-foot tasting room and adjacent VIP room in House Spirits’ new location at 68 S.E. Stark St.

Lorentz Bruun Construction crews started work last fall on tenant improvements for the distillery to occupy a nearly 14,000-square-foot former storage shed once used by building materials supplier Dealers Supply Co. The project is scheduled to be complete in September.

House Spirits’ new tasting room will feature a large viewing window behind the bar looking into the distillery’s production area for spirits that include gin, vodka and malt whiskey, said Osmose Design owner and principal designer Andee Hess. Ample views of distillery operations will serve as the focal point, she said.

鈥淭he whole space is oriented around that,鈥� Hess said.

The tasting room will also feature an archive area highlighting the history of the distillery and notable spirits it has produced, she said.

鈥淲e designed a space that helps synthesize the different elements that make up House Spirits,鈥� Hess said.

House Spirits will lease its new production facility and tasting room from Harsch Investment Properties. The core, shell and exterior tenant improvements were designed by Mackenzie. Laurence Ferar & Associates served as the interior architect.
