The Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Division recently awarded three entities grants totaling $89,000 for development of workplace safety and health education programs.

The Northwest Forest Worker Center received $40,000 to develop Spanish-language flip charts intended to prevent heat-related illness. The charts will be used in interactive sessions with forest workers in Southern Oregon.

The Associated General Contractors’ Oregon-Columbia chapter was awarded $40,000 to create a video and corresponding training presentation addressing the four major health hazards in construction, according to AGC spokeswoman Karla Holland. Construction is regularly ranked among the most dangerous professions by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Oregon Young Employee Safety Coalition won $9,400 to develop an online safety training course for young workers. The material will be created with Adobe Captivate and test participants’ knowledge of safety and health guidelines. A certificate of completion may be earned.
