Even though the Tilikum Crossing took center stage at the 2016 ACEC Oregon Engineering Excellence Awards, capturing both Project of the Year and People’s Choice honors for T.Y. Lin International Group, it wasn’t the only project in the spotlight during the banquet at Multnomah Athletic Club on Wednesday night.
Peterson Structural Engineers received the Small Firm Award for its work on Maleficent Dragon, a project completed for Michael Curry Design in Scappoose. The fire-breathing, 26-foot-tall steampunk dragon, which was entered in the special project category, is a popular character in the Festival of Fantasy parade at Disney’s Magic Kingdom park in Florida.
Fifteen other projects received either grand or honor awards.
Grand awards:
• Cornforth Consultants – Sellwood landslide, a slippery slope for Multnomah County
• David Evans and Associates – Portland-Milwaukie east segment for TriMet
• HDR Engineering and BergerABAM – West Vancouver freight access, rail trench
• Integral Consulting – Cleaning up the Willamette River, one source at a time
• Inter-Fluve – Clackamas River side channel salmon habitat restoration
Honor awards:
• Anderson Perry & Associates – Port of Walla Walla tackles Snake River wastewater crossing
• Black & Veatch and OBEC Consulting Engineers – River intake pump station
• Harper Houf Peterson Righellis (three projects) – 915 Building laser scan; Northwest Friberg Street/Northeast Goodwin Road; Southwest Multnomah Boulevard pedestrian and bicycle improvements
• Hart Crowser with Walker Macy and KPFF Consulting Engineers – South Waterfront Greenway Park
• Inter-Fluve – Horsetail Creek floodplain restoration
• KPFF Consulting Engineers and Shannon & Wilson – Oregon Zoo Elephant Lands
• Shannon & Wilson – OR 217/224 Sunrise Corridor JTA: geotechnical design
•Tetra Tech – Karlson Island tidal restoration project
