The joint venture recently removed as general contractor from the Washington State Convention Center expansion project in Seattle has sued to keep it from happening.

The Seattle offices of Skanska and Hunt Construction announced they are seeking injunctive relief against the owner of the $1.4 billion project, according to a Skanska news release.

Skanska-Hunt is taking this action because WSCC鈥檚 conduct is contrary to the public interest on this important public project,鈥 read the statement.

Matt Griffin, principal of owner鈥檚 representative Pine Street Group, told the 91视频 this month that Skanska-Hunt was removed because it proved to not be a good fit with the project, and also the contract allowed for severance during the preconstruction phase with the owner鈥檚 approval. Griffin declined to provide specifics, but said all subcontractors would be retained.

A permanent injunction hearing is scheduled for March 31.

The spokesman for the owner鈥檚 group could not be reached by phone or email Monday.

Skanska and Hunt have together completed 38 convention center projects across the country, according to the press release. They鈥檙e being represented by attorney Scott Sleight of Seattle law firm Ahlers & Cressman.

Skanska, one of the 10 largest builders in the world, has been rocked of late by a series of scandals. In December, a contractor consortium, White-Skanska-Kiewit, was kicked off of a transit project in Boston after nearly $1 billion in cost overruns. And two years ago, the multinational firm pulled out of South America in the wake of a bribery scandal involving Skanska鈥檚 Brazilian partner.

Currently, Skanska鈥檚 Portland office is working on the $56 million Porter Hotel and the $104 million renovation of Franklin High School, among other projects.
