A driving force of one of the Portland area’s most prominent development companies has stepped down.

Noel Johnson’s last day as vice president and managing director of Vancouver, Washington-based Killian Pacific was Sept. 19, he said.

Johnson led a number of Killian Pacific projects that have helped transform the Central Eastside Industrial District. He will continue developing projects in the Portland area, he said.

鈥淚’m not going anywhere, but it’s been a really great run at Killian Pacific,鈥� he said.

Johnson said he could not divulge details of his next venture, including whether he will join an existing development firm or start a new company with partners.

鈥淚’ll be working with a team,鈥� he said. 鈥淚 kind of have the opinion that the days of the lone developer are over. You can better produce a project by working in a team in a much more collaborative environment, so that’s what I’ll be doing.鈥�

Killian Pacific President Lance Killian said the company is moving forward.

鈥淎s a policy we don’t discuss personnel matters, but I can say that Killian Pacific and Noel Johnson parted ways on amicable terms,鈥� Killian stated in an email message. 鈥淜illian Pacific and its very capable 35 employees are conducting business as usual.鈥�

Johnson, 37, shepherded projects including LOCA (the Goat Blocks), the Hudson Building in Vancouver, Clay Creative and 120 Clay, as well as a number of adaptive reuse projects 鈥� including the 1510 Technology Center in the Central Eastside. Many of these projects have used heavy timber construction.

Killian Pacific’s buildings have often attracted tenants that are local startups or retail businesses. Both Clay Creative and 120 Clay have as their anchor tenant Simple, an online banking platform that was founded in Portland and is now owned by a Spanish bank.

Johnson also had a role in the renovation of the Box Factory retail building in Bend’s Old Mill District. Tenants there include a cider-maker, a brewery and a longboard retailer.

Johnson began working for Killian Pacific in April 2012. Prior to that, he served as a development associate for Trammell Crow Residential, guiding The Vaux condominiums and Eddyline Bridgeport, among other projects. Johnson said he has developed more than 20 projects in the Portland area.

Currently, 120 Clay is under construction. Killian Pacific also is planning a mixed-use project at Northwest 14th Avenue and Lovejoy Street in the Pearl District.
