The Portland Development Commission has entered a third phase of demolition at the waterfront Centennial Mills property in northwest Portland. PDC commissioners voted in September to spend $1 million to demolish the six-story Feed Mill building, which was found to have settled six inches after surrounding structures were demolished.
Tigard-based Northwest Demolition & Dismantling began structural demolition on the 97-year-old building Jan. 2 after a month of lead paint and asbestos abatement. Officials expect the building, which has five stories and a basement, to be down by the end of this month. Once the structure is removed, the slab will be pulled out and area drains will be installed. The project is slated for completion by early March.
