The debuted its Cultural Village expansion, the first public commission in the United States designed by & Associates, earlier this month. The project added several buildings around a sprawling courtyard that will be used for performances, demonstrations, and activities. New buildings include a learning center with a gallery, classroom, gift shop, and library; a garden house, where horticulture workshops will be offered; a tea café cantilevering over the hillside, and a ticketing pavilion at the garden’s entrance in Washington park.

served as the general contractor on the $33.5 million project. and worked in partnership with Kengo Kuma & Associates to design the project, as did the garden’s master gardener, Sadafumi Uchiyama.
