The latest attempt to pass an Oregon transportation package landed Wednesday and the public now has a chance to weigh in.

Meetings will be held Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Salem.

As expected, employs a variety of funding mechanisms to raise revenue, including increasing the state gas tax 16 cents, and establishing a 0.75 percent excise tax on dealer vehicle sales and a 3 percent tax on new, adult bicycles costing more than $500.

The various taxes and fees would raise approximately $509.1 million in 2018 and $1.1 billion by 2027.

The bill would also require the state’s largest cities to salt 25 percent of their roads if they receive 2 inches of snow.

The Legislature most recently attempted to pass a statewide transportation funding package in 2015, before a dispute arose over potentially modifying the state’s clean fuels tax.

Legislators on a bipartisan, bicameral committee that drafted the bill toured the state last year to observe infrastructure conditions and receive public input.

If passed, bill provisions could be further altered through public ballot measures.
