Emerging architecture firm recognized for innovative work

Waechter Architecture was one of 10 firms (one of three in the U.S.) to receive Architectural Record‘s Design Vanguard honor.

The award, which was announced in December, is given to emerging firms judged to be doing particularly innovative work.

Waechter Architecture principal Ben Waechter said the award was a result of the firm’s approach to creating bold architecture by using powerful spaces and avoiding novelty. The award also was a testament to the type of architectural work being done in Portland, he added.

鈥淚t shows that younger practices in Portland are doing internationally recognized work,鈥� Waechter said.
