P&C Construction crew aids in elk rescue

A cow elk in distress was rescued from a cistern on farmland outside Gaston on Wednesday with help from workers with .

The Gaston Fire Department was called to South Road before 11 a.m. P&C was asked by responding sheriff’s deputies to assist in the cervid extraction about a mile away. Workers responded with a forklift and weight-rated slings that were fitted under the animal, and it was unloaded about 8 feet out of the hole.

The crew with P&C was in the area working on the $17 million .

“It’s nice to be able to help out,” said P&C foreman Doran Spenst. “It’s good for us to give back to this community and good for that elk to get back to doing what it does.”

A Fox 12 Oregon photographer was on hand to the rescue.
