Two library designs by Portland firms are included in the 2017 Library Design Showcase. was honored for its Allan Price Science Commons Research Library at the University of Oregon, and Scott | Edwards Architecture was singled out for its Oregon City Public Library addition and renovation.

The showcase is hosted by the American Libraries magazine and honors newly renovated libraries across the United States and Canada. For 2017, 15 designs were chosen from among 60 submissions.

The 104-year-old Oregon City Public Library is listed on the . Scott | Edwards Architecture saved the entry of the original 5,000-square-foot building and designed a $6.9 million, 14,000-square-foot expansion. Community meeting rooms and a large children’s play room were added, and seismic safety improvements were installed.

A rehabilitation of the Allan Price library cost $19.5 million, and added 4,358 square feet for chemistry, human physiology, physics, geology, computer science and biology studies. A big data visualization lab, a group study area and 鈥渕akerspace鈥 were also included.
