Northwest architecture firm honored twice

Two designs by were recognized by the American Institute of Architects’ Washington Council during its Civic Design Awards event.

One citation award went to Mahlum for its design of Seattle Public Utilities’ new North Transfer Station. That project also won a People’s Choice Award from the American Institute of Steel Construction in the 2017 IDEAS² competition for projects that use structural steel. The environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art, $108 million facility aims to provide superior recycling and reuse capabilities along with efficient handling of the city’s garbage.

The second citation award for Mahlum was for the design of Northwood Elementary School on Mercer Island, near Seattle.
