A renovation of ‘s Jackson Terminus has won statewide recognition for its landscape features.

The Jackson Terminus is located at the confluence of three light-rail lines at Southwest Jackson Street and Broadway near Portland State University. The installation filters and slows water runoff from impervious pavement surrounding it on three sides.

The renovation features a new landscaping design by David Goodyke, a landscaper with Nevue Ngan Associates. The rich, living palette includes santolina and yucca plants along with a variety of sedum and grasses; all were selected to provide color throughout the year.

The landscape spreads out against a backdrop of solar panels and is designed to soften the industrial feel of the area. The installation was performed by Portland-based Miller Factors.

The project earlier this year was awarded first place for commercial construction projects under $50,000 by the Oregon Landscape Contractors Association. The project was submitted by Miller Factors, which has been a member of the trade association since 2003.
