The Oregon Department of Transportation is preparing for a project to repaint the historic in Newport.

As part of routine maintenance, ODOT is looking to recoat the 600-foot-long bridge; the project is estimated to cost $2 million to $5 million. Bids are due by 9 a.m. on Oct. 11. A mandatory pre-bid meeting for the project is set for 10 a.m. on Sept. 21, at the Newport Recreation Center, at 225 S.E. Avery St. in Newport.

The main span features a semi-through arch. The roadway proceeds through the middle of the arch, which is flanked by identical, 350-foot-long steel deck arches. There are five concrete deck arches of diminishing size extending to the south landing.

The overall length of the bridge is 3,260 feet. The crown of the main arch is 246 feet above the water’s surface. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.
