The Gresham Design Commission has given a green light to the development team proposing to build a 37-unit multifamily project at the northeast corner of Southeast 202nd Avenue and Stark Street.
Plans for the Archibald Grove Apartments call for two buildings – one with 12 one-bedroom units and the other with 25 two-bedroom units; all would rent at market rates. The development will provide as many as 61 parking spaces for motor vehicles.
Taylor Kaplan, a principal with Gibbins Kaplan Development, is listed as the applicant for the project, which is planned for a vacant 1.53-acre parcel of land.
The property owner is UAA/GKD Archibald Grove Investors LLC, a corporation aligned with Gibbins Kaplan Development, a firm formed earlier this year to focus on workforce housing projects in the Portland-metro area. The firm was jointly founded by Kaplan and Wylie Gibbins; both formerly worked for Williams & Dame Development.
MWA Architects is designing the project, which will have entrances on both 202nd Avenue and Stark Street. While most utilities are already in place and serve the surrounding neighborhood, the site lacks stormwater drainage and will require installation of a series of rain gardens to compensate.
